Norwegian ruler Olaf Trygogvason is remembered for his blood-lust and his ability to leap from oar to oar as his men rowed. He's one of a legion of colorful Viking warriors who blazed a murderous trail, yet left a surprisingly orderly, prosperous, and sophisticated wake. It's a small wonder that the stories of the Norsemen continue to fascinate.

    Photographer: David Mello

Rural landscapes are in David Mello's bones. While he spent several years as a professional photographer with the Raytheon Corporation in Massachusetts, he lived on Mello Lane Turkey Farm outside of Boston. Eventually he ran the family business. All the while, he photographed the farm's woods and pond, as well as, New England's forests, sky, and beaches. David moved to Colorado which gave him the opportunity to explore and capture on film the Front Range, Westcliffe, and the western United States.
